The short answer
A fair portability comparison adds every item you need to work: device, charger, cables, adapters and any separate keyboard. Keep published starting weights separate from measured kit weights. A tablet-only number and a complete laptop weight are not the same measurement.
Define a repeatable travel kit
Begin with one real journey: a day on campus, a client visit or an overnight trip. Put together the equipment you would pack for that journey. Include the laptop or tablet, the charging setup, required input devices and any presentation adapters.
Keep unrelated items out of the comparison or include them consistently. If the same bag and headphones are used for both devices, record them separately. A clear boundary makes the result easy to repeat later.
Measure rather than guess
Use a scale to record each item in grams. For a device you do not yet own, label the manufacturer’s figure as a published starting weight. Do not present it as your own measurement. Regional configurations and bundled accessories can change the final result.
The calculator below starts with an example laptop weight and zero accessory weight. Replace those values with the figures for your actual kit. The total is arithmetic, not a laboratory test or a claim about how heavy a bag will feel.
Add your actual carry weight
Every gram in
your bag counts.
The laptop is only the start. Add the charger, cables and accessories you actually carry to compare a complete working kit.
975g is the Yoga Slim 7i Ultra published starting weight. Accessories start at zero. Enter your own measured weights; the result is a calculation, not a measured product test.
What the total does—and does not—tell you
Total kit weight answers a narrow question: how much this equipment weighs. It does not measure keyboard comfort, balance in the hand, durability or battery endurance. Keep those as separate decision factors.
A detachable can be pleasant to use without its keyboard, but a writing assignment may need that keyboard again. A laptop with fewer built-in connectors may need an adapter. Compare your own routine rather than treating one arrangement as better for everyone.
Turn the measurement into a buying decision
Once you know the full kit weight, decide whether the difference is meaningful for your journey. Do not give up an essential application or working position just to improve one number. Use a complete comparison alongside the business-travel guide or the graduate-study guide.
